MARATHON COUPLES THERAPY
Marathon Couples Therapy is an intensive and focused therapeutic modality for couples in high distress. A typical Marathon session lasts approximately 15 to 22 hours over two and a half days. What you can expect from a Marathon session with Connie is to have the trajectory of your relationship shift — from a negative arc to something more positive and productive.

Early in the work, the goals and intentions of the therapy will be identified. Couples who end up in Connie’s office don’t always have the same hopes, intentions or goals, but yet they need to come to some sort of resolution. Connie honors both individual’s hopes and dreams, and sees her job as facilitating her clients in accessing new strengths, learning new skills and gaining new insights, which then move them in the direction of their goals and dreams.

Prior to coming, you will be sent a packet to fill out. In that packet you will be asked numerous questions about your current state of affairs, as well as to describe what it is you hope to achieve in the two and a half days of therapy. These goals become Connie’s guideposts. She will review this packet of information prior to meeting you.

Connie is available for Marathons beginning on Wednesday evenings, working all day Thursday and Friday until 3:00 pm. On Wednesday, you will first meet together with Connie, and then each member of the partnership will have the opportunity to meet with her individually as well. The three of you will reconvene Thursday at 9:00 a.m. At that time, Connie will offer her picture and sense of the current state of your relationship, how it got there, as well as her plan for moving you toward your goals. Once she is certain all three of you are on the same page, the therapy begins. A few days after your marathon is concluded, you will receive a written summary of the work accomplished, a detailed description of the tools taught, as well as suggestions and recommendation made to each member of the couple, describing what he or she may wish to focus on, in order to stabilize the changes made in the marathon.

PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION
Connie has offered consultation to numerous clinicians in four countries. The consultation she offers is for clinicians working with couples. While it is advantageous to have had some training in either the Gottman Method and/or in Emotion Focused Therapy, it isn’t mandatory. The ideal situation is if you are savvy with a video camera and can video tape your sessions for Connie to review.
She is also available for group consultations over the phone. For individual consultation, the fee is $150/50 minutes.
